Cactus Technologies, Ltd. Launches Industrial Grade 40 and 44 pin Disk-On-Modules

Cactus Technologies, Ltd. today announced the launch of a new family of Industrial IDE Disk On Module (DOM) products in both 40 and 44 pin versions. The DOM products are meant to satisfy the needs of Industrial OEM customers that want a very small form factor product for embedded applications having either a 40 or 44 pin IDE connector. The DOM emulates a hard disk drive so additional host changes are not required.

The IDE DOM will be sold in multiple capacity points from 128 megabytes (MB) up to four gigabytes (GB) (a), and incorporate the key features desired by Industrial customers while meeting all industry standard IDE electrical specifications. One of the key uses for this product is to take the place of a rotating hard disk drive in applications that demand a more robust device.

Sai-Ying Ng, President of Cactus Technologies, said, "With the launch of our Disk On Module family, Cactus rounds out our ATA flash memory product families. We developed the DOM product to meet the needs of OEMs requiring a very small form factor to replace a hard disk drive in their designs. It carries all of the Industrial feature set that our customers have come to appreciate in our flash card and Flash Drive products.“

The Cactus Tech DOM have been designed with a Long Life Cycle, which permits OEM customers to focus on their core business rather than continually having to qualify flash cards due to controller and memory changes. High Write Endurance of > 2 million write cycles per logical block is ideal for use in disk-like applications vs. a typical consumer flash device of < 100,000. Our industry leading Shock specification of 50 G and Vibration of 15G peak-to-peak make the Cactus DOM family dependable in even the most rugged environments. Finally, Cactus offers an extended temperature range option that is guaranteed down to -45C (-49 Fahrenheit) and up to +90C (194 Fahrenheit) for applications encountering extreme conditions.

Joseph Chang, Vice President of Engineering, commented, "Our IDE Disk On Module family carries on the tradition of high Industrial specifications as with our previous CF, PC Card and 2.5” Flash Drives. The DOM program includes Cactus developed technology specifically for the customers desiring a rugged, reliable product for even the most extreme environments. As with our other products we offer design assistance and technical support worldwide.”

The DOM product family is available in densities of 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB today. They come in either a 40 or 44 pin variety and can have the DMA mode disabled to meet some legacy system requirements. Please contact Cactus Technologies for more details and pricing.
